Subjects Covered in a Medical Assistant Program

A comprehensive medical assistant program prepares students for entry-level positions as multi-skilled professionals in a variety of healthcare settings. It teaches clinical and administrative skills used in medical settings that help offices run more efficiently.

Several Florida Career College campuses offer a Medical Assistant Diploma or associate degree program that teaches the interdisciplinary skills needed to compete in the health care field.  Students complete a variety of courses that address administrative and clinical skills essential to the profession, including anatomy, clinical procedures, office administration, and more.

Hands-on training includes learning how to prepare and administer injections, perform venipuncture, and maintain medical records. Students also take courses in office administration and professional development. [citation id =”1″]

After coursework is satisfactorily completed, students begin an externship with a medical office to gain real-world experience.

Students who complete the Medical Assistant Diploma program are ready to compete for entry-level jobs as a medical assistant, medical receptionist, medical bookkeeper, or laboratory assistant. Associate degree holders are prepared for career advancement and can seek more expanded career opportunities in the field.
