Massage therapy students are trained to provide massage to relieve pain caused by injury or illness.
Anthem College—Brookfield (Milwaukee, WI) offers a Diploma in Massage Therapy that trains students in the different modalities used throughout the profession. Examples include Swedish, sport, spa and geriatric massage applications, as well as trigger point and stress relief therapies and Oriental modalities.
The massage therapy program prepares students to compete for entry-level massage therapy positions in clinical or sport facility settings. A class on business discusses ethics for massage therapists, as well as standard business practices concerning hygiene, first aid and CPR. It also introduces content on starting and promoting a massage therapy business.
After successfully completing all coursework, students complete a supervised clinic. The program also prepares them to sit for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork or the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination.
Program graduates can compete for positions in a range of environments, including medical offices, sports facilities and spas.
